About Prairie Harbor Yacht Club
Prairie Harbor Yacht Club is located in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, right on the state line between Illinois and Wisconsin. PHYC was originally developed to meet the needs of boaters in the Chicago and southeastern Wisconsin areas seeking a private slip without a lengthy commute. By developing a marina that was recognized immediately for its "home port" appeal, Prairie Harbor became a place where families from similar backgrounds can share a beautiful harbor, delightful amenities, and the fellowship of boating.

Prairie Harbor has 151 slips in 40', 60', and 80' lengths. Our beautiful clubhouse boasts kitchen, laundry, and private bathroom/shower facilities. Our pool is heated. We have a private beach. Stay active with volleyball, tennis, and horseshoes. Our facilities are kept private with gated keyfob access. We maintain over a dozen gas grills on the grounds for your enjoyment. We offer weekly pump out service at your boat. We host several events each season to promote a sense of community. And with marine industry leader Skipper Bud's literally only a few minutes away, you can enjoy everything they have to offer without the hassle of a public marina.

A LITTLE HISTORY:
Initially, Prairie Harbor was the dream retreat of the Walter H. Mayer family. His mansion was built in 1937, and served the Mayer family well for many years. Joe Louis even trained for several of his championship fights here!

Eventually, the mansion fell into disrepair. During the razing of the home for the construction of our lovely clubhouse, workers discovered a cornerstone which offered an important link between the land's past and its future. It simply read, "AS OUR DREAMS ARE, SUCH ARE WE"
Much to the delight of the developers, the engraved stone was actually a time capsule which contained mementos, photos and documents. Included was Mayer's 1937 travel diary from Egypt, his published travelogue of his global cruise, a son's letter from camp, and family snapshots and pictures. Half of the contents of the time capsule are currently on display in Prairie Harbor's clubhouse. The other half - and some additions from the new developer - were put back in the corner stone and placed in the wall of the new club house. The new time capsule is now located between the front entrance door and the entrance to the men's shower facility.

Prairie Harbor Yacht Club has taken steps to ensure the continued preservation of its unique waterfront and land. As a result, owners will be able to enjoy this precious slice of boating Americana for generations to come.
